Our Craft

The Toughest Raw Materials

At Etosha Boots, we take pride in handmaking every boot using the toughest raw materials the world has to offer. We source leather from Seidel Tanning* in Wisconsin, rubber soles from Vibram® in Massachusetts, leather components made from US hides, solid brass hardware, nails from Italy, USA and Japan, fire threads from Canada.

Our team consists of full-time, second and third-generation shoemakers. Aswe own our factory, we can ensure strict control over both our production standards and raw material quality.

*Logger boots are made with Seidel leather only.

Pre-molded Leather Insole

Leather insoles are pre-molded on German pine forms over a 48-hour period. This shapes the insole to the precise curvature of the last bottom without compressing the fibers or thickness.

The result is a significantly easier break-in period.

Leather Internal Components

We build the boot’s internal components using exclusively vegetable-tanned leather. Engineered to tight tolerances, this structure provides a precise foundation where the upper and sole attach.

This meticulous construction is the reason why re-soling and rebuilding the boots is straightforward and enduring.

A Legacy of Hand Lasting

"We last each pair by hand using the same type of hand tools used over a hundred and fifty years ago."

The Traditional Leather Box Toe

Our commitment to quality means we use a vegetable-tanned leather box in every pair. While not a substitute for a safety toe, this traditional method preserves the boot’s toe profile and provides a durable shield against light impact.

Multiple-Row Stitching

Even on heavy 7.5 – 8 oz leather, our stitch quality rivals that of a fine dress boot. Using industrial 138 nylon thread, our skilled stitchers are among the best in the industry.

We four-row stitch the vamp and triple stitch the heel counter, ensuring resilience to failure from wildland firefighting to industrial job sites.

Left to Right Boot Symmetry

"Hand marking all the bottom component fitting areas ensures that the left and right boots are a mirror copy of each other."

One Piece Pull Loop & Leather Collar Binding

From the leather binding on the collar to aone-piece back stay with a crossed stitched pull loop.

No raw edges and no broken pull loops.

Iron nails hold the leather heel stack in place permanently

"Heels are also nailed from the inside!."

After the leather heel stack is glued and iron nailed from the outside, ribbed Italian nails are driven at an angle from the inside, all along the rear heel perimeter to permanently lock the heel in place for good.

nails from Italy
ensure a tough boot is
born in our factory.

Our two-step stitching process ensures your boots stand up to the toughest terrain. The primary 360° stitch is shielded deep within the rubber outsole for protection against abrasions, while a secondary stitch anchors the Vibram® outsole.

By minimizing perforations in the rubber and protecting the first stitch, we’ve maximized structural integrity
